'Expensive equipment means less downtime' | | 2009/09/08 | |
Experienced IT administrators and more expensive equipment will reduce the amount of downtime businesses face, it has been claimed.
According to research carried out by the Information Technology Intelligence Corporation (ITIC), more sophisticated IT platforms result in fewer internet outages, reports The Register.
ITIC told the news provider that internet outages are usually caused by three things, human error, software problems, or a hardware fault.
Laura DiDio, who set up ITIC, told the news provider : "The experience level for Unix and AS/400 administrators is equivalent to having a master craftsman build something for you or a Grade-A mechanic fixing you car."
The news may be of interest to companies looking to boost their server reliability by implementing a website monitoring service.
Meanwhile, Jeff Powers, service product manager at Emerson Network Power Service, said that carrying out thorough thermal assessments on data centre infrastructure could help companies avoid hotspots and reduce their downtime. |
