8x8 VoIP service site back to normal after outage | | 2010/01/18 | | Two websites owned by Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider 8x8 are back up and running after experiencing an outage.
The problem also left customers without service for up to four hours after an unaffiliated Tier-1 ISP interfered with the proper routing of an Internet Protocol address.
"While we were able to immediately restore service for some customers by broadcasting correct routing information via our backup data providers, the interference from the unaffiliated ISP continued for approximately four hours," director of corporate communications at 8x8 Joan Citelli said.
Some of the company's customers were unable to reach its services, despite its core software and networks continuing to operate as normal during the outage.
The organisation is currently implementing additional mechanisms to protect customers from experiencing any similar problems.
Last year 8x8 suffered a similar outage due to a DNS issue during which its VoIP service was interrupted and its websites were down.
During such events it is important that problems with company websites are reported immediately. This is made possible when website monitoring services are put in place. |
