Amazon offers credit following outage | | 2008/07/22 | | Amazon Web Services customers affected by the recent seven-hour outage of its Simple Storage Service (S3) are to receive credit notes from the online retailer.
The firm has announced that all customers who were unable to access data stored via the S3 function due to Sunday's website problems will automatically receive notice of the credit on their August billing statements.
Amazon operates a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for the service, which will be waived to make up for this weekend's outage.
A statement released on Monday explained: "We'll be announcing on the developer forum momentarily that we'll be waiving our standard SLA process and applying the appropriate service credit to all affected customers for the July billing period.
"Customers will not need to send us an e-mail to request their credits, as these will be automatically applied. This transaction will be reflected in our customers' August billing statements."
AWS offers cloud based solutions for web developers to store several types of data online.
