Aviation technician union critical of outage response | | 2009/11/20 | | Concerns have been raised over the US Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) response to a computer outage it suffered earlier this week.
The Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (Pass), a union representing aviation technicians, said the downtime reportedly caused by a corrupt router card in the Federal Telecommunications Infrastructure lasted longer than was necessary.
Initial attempts to troubleshoot the problem remotely failed, meaning a technician had to be dispatched to Salt Lake City to carry out manual repairs. Full services were eventually restored four hours later.
Tom Brantley, Pass national president, said delays were caused by the fact the FAA did not have access to its own IT infrastructure.
He added: "This could have reduced delays tremendously and allowed a much quicker resolution to the problem. Delays continue to plague the system."
Earlier this week, the benefits of website monitoring services were highlighted when the HBOS banking site crashed following a power failure. |
