Businesses and suppliers 'must improve relationship' | | 2008/11/18 | | Businesses and technology suppliers must improve their relationships, a new report has claimed.
A study by international legal firm Norton Rose found that more than two thirds (68 per cent) of customers planned to increase spending on outsourced services, such as website monitoring, in the next 12 months.
However, despite 83 per cent of buyers expressing a desire to build relationships with their key suppliers, both customers and vendors revealed that the relationships were often below expectations.
Mike Rebeiro, partner and head of sourcing at the company, said that businesses and suppliers of technology and services like website monitoring "need to be far more open with each other about their objectives".
"Customers and vendors need to take a more considered approach to identifying the risks associated with projects and a more realistic approach to the allocation of risk between themselves," he said.
Despite the predicted increase in spending on outsourced technology, growth in the IT market as a whole will slow next year, according to analysis firm IDC.
It estimated that IT spending will grow by 2.6 per cent in 2009, 3.3 per cent less than an earlier estimate made before the financial crisis began.
