Cahoot suffers major downtime following powercut | | 2008/10/21 | | Cahoot, the online banking arm of Santander-owned Abbey, suffered a major server outage last week which left customers unable to access their accounts for in excess of 24 hours, it has been revealed.
At around 8am on October 15th, the bank's website went offline due to a power cut at its Spanish facility. The bank's call centre also went down during the outage.
Martin Timms, Cahoot's managing director, told the Times: "Cahoot is part of the Santander Group, one of the world's most successful and well-capitalised banks with nearly 70 million customers and remains a safe place for your money"
During the outage, no scheduled payments or direct debits were made, leaving a number of customers at risk from defaulting on debt payment, for instance.
Downtime of this magnitude strengthens the case for effective and responsive website monitoring software, in order to detect and deal with these threats to the integrity of a firm's online presence.
As of October 17th, services to customers were restored. Cahoot was founded in 2000. |
