Canadian airline suffers website outage | | 2008/10/22 | | Canadian national air carrier Air Canada suffered an outage in its reservation network on Monday, it has emerged.
Approximately two hours of reported downtime, beginning at around 10:00 local time, meant that staff at airports across Canada experienced a series of problems until the issue was resolved.
Reports indicate that the problem came as a result of a malfunction at the airline's network partner Bell Canada, which provides the infrastructure to link terminals at individual airports to the company's central bookings and reservations system.
With the resultant delays and four short-haul flight cancellations, this kind of incident underlines the need for uptime monitoring to ensure that such outages are dealt with effectively so as to reduce their impact on users.
Air Canada's Peter Fitzpatrick said: "It impacted all the operations. The airport computers and the reservation system and system operation control and my own emails were slow today.
"The hope is everyone will get to where they're going today," he added, underlining the uncertainty than be caused by a significant downtime incident.
Air Canada is the country's largest airline, with more than 32 million passengers using its services each year, flying to in excess of 170 destinations worldwide. |
