Cloud Storage falls out of the sky | | 2008/07/23 | | The silver lining came off Amazon's Cloud Storage when technical glitches knocked the system offline for several hours on Sunday.
The company's Simple Storage Service (S3) went dark when communication problems among the system's hosts were instrumental in preventing the servers from interacting properly.
In order to get the system back up and running, Amazon took the step of taking the entire service offline in order to address the communication glitch before attempting a relaunch hours later.
Speaking to InternetNews.com, a spokesperson for Amazon said: "These are sophisticated systems and it generally takes a while to get to root cause in such a situation.
"We will be providing our customers with more information when we've fully investigated the incident.
"We're proud of our operational performance but any downtime is unacceptable and we won't be satisfied until it is perfect." She went on to say that further details would be announced shortly. |
