Common data exchange method on horizon | | 2008/05/21 | | A future common data exchange method allowing the compatibility of different manufacturers' products will be the next big step forward taken by wireless internet, according to one expert.
Andrew Ferguson, editor of news provider thinkbroadband, said the innovation is going to be a significant development.
He commented: "The biggest advance will come when a common data exchange method is arrived at, allowing devices from different manufacturers to share information and control each other."
Adding:"One thing to consider is energy efficiency; electricity is going up in price which means people may in time be reluctant to add yet more always-on electrical devices to the home."
According to a report from Ofcom, over the last six years, broadband penetration has increased from seven per cent in 2002 to 57 per cent in the final quarter of 2007.
The same publication revealed that consumers appear "relatively happy" with the choice delivered by internet infrastructure and headline broadband speeds.
