Customers card details stolen from website | | 2008/06/11 | | Thieves have stolen up to 38,000 encrypted credit card details after instigating an attack on the website of clothing firm Cotton Traders, according to reports.
Hackers targeted the site in January and as soon as the company detected the breach they notified Barclaycard, which stopped most cards in the same month to prevent potential fraud.
Cotton Traders also contacted Apacs, the trade association for the payment industry, which has helped the police set up a specialist unit designed to catch the culprits.
The firm said in a statement: "Cotton Traders have recently upgraded all security on their website which has been validated by leading industry experts."
It added: "We would like to reassure all our customers that their data is secure and that the Cotton Traders website meets all leading Industry security standards."
Cotton Traders, which was set up in 1987 by former England rugby captains Fran Cotton and Steve Smith, currently has an annual turnover in excess of £50 million.
