Data centre looks to expand | | 2008/05/13 | | A Scottish data centre part owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland is eying expansion in the west of the country from its Edinburgh base.
Scolocate, which is one of the largest data centres in the country, servicing both corporations and small businesses, is responding to the growing demand for the remote hosting of internet equipment and computer services in the wake of concerns relating to power outages and server security, reports the Scotsman.
Managing director Roy Maxwell highlighted the importance of a reliable internet connection to Scottish firms making services such as data centres and website monitoring systems all the more vital.
He told the newspaper: "We see more and more demand coming from small and medium-sized companies.
"They need something that's always on businesses can't afford for the web to go down. What we do underpins so much of Scottish business, but most people are unaware of it."
Scolocate's current site in the South Gyle area of Edinburgh occupies 44,000 square feet.
