Demand for Michael Jackson memorial tickets crashes website | | 2009/07/06 | | The website of an American stadium crashed moments after it launched a lottery for Michael Jackson memorial service tickets.
More than half a million logged on to the Staples Center site hoping to win one of 17,500 free tickets to the King of Pop's service.
Winners of the funeral service lottery would either be able to watch event in person at the Staples Center Arena of on a big screen at the nearby Nokia Theatre.
But the website was unable to cope with the surge in traffic and crashed moments later something a website monitoring service may have helped to avoid.
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry said: "You might want to consider watching this from the comfort of your own home."
Meanwhile, new research by Egnyte has shown that an hour-long internet outage would have an adverse impact on all small businesses.
The company claimed that one in five small firms said an hour's downtime would have a severe effect. |
