Didn't ask for it? Delete it! | | 2008/07/15 | | Phishing is now reaching cynical levels with unscrupulous criminals attempting to obtain sensitive personal data through online employment agencies.
Preying on people who are in the job market seems to be on the rise as many inboxes were hit with requests for personal information that appeared to have come from Monster.com - not unlike the wave that CareerBuilder.com endured earlier in the year.
Job hunters may be coaxed into updating their profile while being concerned about missing out on potential job offers.
The messages look like they come from Monster's customer service department but the destination from the spam link goes to a domain in the UK, with Domain Name System (DNS) traced to a bot Turkey.
Writing for webpronews.com, Zhedong Chen said: "Recent phishing attacks under Monster's name appear to focus on recruiter accounts.
"Such accounts may lead to many more job recruit profiles available from the recruiter's workspace.
"Identity theft would be trivial to commit with the range of details available from that treasure trove of data."
The practise off phishing can be minimised with adequate web site monitoring. |
