Disaster recovery plans are increasingly important | | 2009/07/10 | |
Disaster recovery plans are vitally important to modern businesses as the cost of dealing with downtime increases, it has been claimed.
According to a new study by Applied Research West, IT budgets for things like website monitoring services have increased in recent times, but they are expected to remain static in the coming years - putting extra pressure on firm's IT infrastructure.
The company's IT Disatster Recovery survey shows that while the average downtime experienced by businesses when they implement their disaster recovery programmes has fallen to an average of four hours, more needs to be done.
Some 64 per cent of IT professionals questioned by Applied Research West said virtualisation has resulted in them re-evaluating their disaster recovery plans.
Meanwhile, research by Egnyte has shown that downtime at small businesses can have severe consequences on productivity.
And Eugene Spafford, director of Purdue University's Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security, said denial of service attacks, which can cause downtime through a huge spike in web traffic, are set to continue. |
