E-commerce computer targets Chinese SMEs | | 2008/05/15 | | A specially-designed e-commerce computer has been launched targeting small to medium enterprises (SME) in China.
Intel and Chinese e-commerce specialists Alibaba have teamed up for the project, which will see the launch of Intel-made PCs preinstalled with e-commerce applications.
According to PC World: "Alibaba, which is 40 per cent owned by Yahoo, is an e-commerce giant in China. For many small Chinese manufacturers, the site is the easiest way to access a global market for their products."
There are said to be 42 million SMEs in China, with many expected to look towards e-commerce in the future as a gateway to international sales.
Alibaba chief executive Wei Zhe commented that "Alibaba sees great potential in this market."
The firm has collaborated with Amazon to provide an online payment system - known as Alipay - for Chinese customers.
