E-commerce is saviour of travel world | | 2008/05/02 | | E-commerce is driving the travel world forward due to the convenience it offers customers.
A representative of Which? Holiday has suggested that the ability for holidaymakers to book online from home or at lunchtime from work has contributed to the rise of web-based services.
However, researcher Kate Shipp explained that the lures of arranging a holiday on the internet reached further than simply convenience.
She said: "It's also about being able to compare things quickly on price and choice."
Ms Shipp went on to point out that the ability to "tailor the holiday to suit your needs," was another plus point of dealing online.
In 2007, a Travel Technology Initiative Special Report, predicted that the number of offline travel agents in the UK is set to decline to 2,000 in the next five years.
According to recent figures from e-Marketer, online travel is the largest category of E-commerce among the major economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
