Failed email causes E-rage | | 2008/07/18 | | A new survey has revealed just how important email is as a business tool by highlighting the inevitable phenomenon of E-rage which occurs predominantly when email systems fail.
E-rage is a common cause of stress among computer users especially if the computer is being used for business purposes.
For some, the anxiety caused by not being able to access email has led to office staff attempting extreme measures of fixing the problem by becoming physically aggressive towards their computers, the survey said.
ISP Eclipse Internet carried out the report which looked at the effects of email down-time on business owners and workers.
Speaking to the Birmingham Post, Mark Thomas from Eclipse Internet said: "We wanted to understand the impact of email downtime on small business owners. "We know that in at least 40 per cent of small companies, email is set up and maintained by unqualified personnel and as a result these companies are more susceptible to suffering the consequences of E-rage.
"The message to small businesses is clear - concentrate on running your core business and let a professional third party manage your email communications."
The survey concluded that levels of E-rage are much lower in those firms who outsource email maintenance duties. |
