Fake emails 'still posing security risks' to web users | | 2010/06/28 | | People's online security may be put in jeopardy if they click on the links that are contained within fake emails, according to one expert.
Trend Micro's senior security advisor Rik Ferguson commented that web users might still end up clicking on URLs even if they know emails are not legitimate.
He stated: "Most of these emails that we see now don't contain any kind of malicious attachment; they just contain a link to a website to allow criminals to attack."
Malware is another issue that people may have to contend with if they click on dangerous email links, Mr Ferguson went on to say.
Just visiting a phishing site could see internet users hit by malware, the expert added.
Those looking to enhance their email security alongside their use of website monitoring services might also be interested to note the findings of recent CPP research, which suggested that the UK sees around 420,000 scam emails sent on an hourly basis. |
