Firms increase internet spending | | 2008/09/26 | | Small and medium-sized enterprises are increasingly relying on the internet during the current financial downturn, new research has indicated. Business insurer Premierline Direct found a 40 per cent increase in online spending among small businesses, with more than half arguing that it was a better way of purchasing goods and services. "The growth of the internet has really made products and services more accessible to business owners and is an ideal tool for companies looking to make time and cost savings by shopping around for the best deals," said the firm's managing director Chris Little. An increased reliance by such a large number of business for an ever-increasing range of activity highlights the need for effective website monitoring to ensure high uptimes rates and reliability of servers. [Premierline Direct also reports that businesses are turning to the internet as part of their "day to day operations to improve efficiency", with 70 per cent noting that logistical expenses such as travel could be reduced. The statistics show that business expenditure had had begun to follow consumer spending, which was reported an increase of 38 per cent in the first half of this year with 17 per cent of household funds being spent online according to the BBC. |
