Fraudulent emails 'may be difficult to spot' | | 2010/06/23 | | It might prove difficult for web users to notice that certain emails they have received are fraudulent, according to one expert.
Writing in an article for Moneyweb, Absa Digital and Self-Service Channels managing executive Christo Vrey highlighted the fact that people might end up disclosing their personal details because of fake emails.
He stated: "Be vigilant at all times if you do internet banking because criminal gangs are sending a lot of fake emails aimed at tricking you into giving them vital personal account details."
Those looking to improve their email and online security, perhaps with the use of website monitoring services, might also be interested to note Mr Vrey's views about how email users could protect themselves better.
When they are sent messages from unknown sources, it might be best for people to delete such emails, the expert added in his article.
Earlier this month, Robert Schifreen, an IT security specialist, also pointed out that social networking sites may pose a security threat to web users if they reveal too much about themselves. |
