Gmail outage named as number one | | 2009/02/27 | | Google's Gmail crash from earlier in the week has been named as the number one worst web outage.
In its Top Ten worst website outages list, vnunet has put the Google downtime at the top of the pile.
Other high-profile incidents include the website outages of several travel websites as snow hit the UK earlier in the month – it is possible that these inconveniences could have been avoided with the use of website load testing services.
On the Google calamity, which occurred on the same day as a phishing attack on Google Chat, vnunet described the global horror as one of the internet's most popular websites failed to perform.
"Millions of internet users worldwide sit up and take notice when Google goes down," said the website.
"The latest outage on Tuesday, February 24th lasted for more than two hours, with the web giant attributing the unplanned downtime to testing new software during data centre maintenance."
