Google Mail faces fresh technical hiccups | | 2009/05/08 | | Google Mail suffered a short outage this morning leaving users unable to access their email accounts for several hours.
The internet giant said it was aware of the problem and working hard to resolve it, but could not make an official statement about the cause or how long it would take to get the service back up and running.
Users first encountered the problem at around 11:00 BST this morning when some users were greeted with the message: "We're sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologise for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes."
It is the third time Google has suffered a Gmail outage this year, but it is unclear whether or not the company is making use of website monitoring services.
The outage quickly became one of the most talked-about subjects on social networking site Twitter.
A recent weekend email outage suffered by Australian company WebCentral was reported by CRN to have cost the company between $10,000 and $20,000 (£5,000 to £10,000).
