Google sees UK search share decrease | | 2008/06/13 | | The proportion of UK searches made via Google fell by 0.39 per cent in May, according to figures issued by Hitwise.
The search giant accounted for 87.3 per cent of the British market last month, which is nine per cent higher than in May 2007.
Yahoo Search recorded a slight monthly improvement to see its market share reach 4.09 per cent. However, this represents a massive decline from 8.59 per cent last year.
This trend is reflected by search rivals MSN Search, which dropped from 5.46 per cent to 3.72 per cent, and Ask, which now has 3.07 per cent compared to 4.96 per cent in May 2007.
Google is in a far less dominant position in the US, where it only serves 68.29 per cent of online searches.
Yahoo leads the competition with 19.95 per cent, while MSN and Ask are lagging behind on 5.89 per cent and 4.23 per cent respectively.
