Hackers from the US are most feared by IT and security executives | | 2010/02/01 | |
The US has been named as the most likely source of cyber attacks in a study carried out by software security company McAfee.
Of the 600 IT and security executives questioned in the survey, 36 per cent cited the US as a worry in terms of cyber hacking.
The next most serious threat was China, with 33 per cent of the executives that were questioned across 14 countries highlighting the country as a concern.
It was discovered that 54 per cent of the respondents had already suffered large scale attacks or infiltrations from organized crime, terrorists or governments.
In the report McAfee chief executive officer Dave DeWalt is quoted as saying: "From public transportation, to energy to telecommunications, these are the systems we depend on every day. An attack on any of these industries could cause widespread economic disruptions, environmental disasters, loss of property and even loss of life."
Last month Facebook teamed up with McAfee to give users of the site a free virus cleanup of their computers if their accounts have been hacked into before they use the social networking site again.
With more cyber attacks taking place, website monitoring services can give a helping hand to make the site owner aware if a website has been hacked and its appearance has been altered. |
