High internet traffic hits Australia's NetBank services | | 2009/06/30 | | An unexpected spike in internet traffic has hit the Australian Commonwealth Bank's online platform, which could possibly indicate that the site does not make use of website monitoring services. Many of the customers have been locked out of the NetBank service several times this week, as a series of outages hit the provider. The bank originally suspected the downtime could have been caused by hackers or a denial of service attack due to the record high volume of traffic experienced, reports the Herald Sun. "Quite a few people were [locked out] and that was because of the massive volume," said the bank's chief information officer Michael Harte. He told the newspaper: "Everybody's piling in. There's massive volumes because people need to pay mortgages and credit card bills." Customers of HSBC have also been experiencing some difficulty accessing their online banking recently. The Register reported that it has received complaints from disgruntled users who found themselves 'locked out' of the service earlier this week.
