India's data centre market expanding | | 2008/06/23 | | India could mirror the US in becoming a massive base for thousands data centres, according to a newly-published study.
The research from data centre analysts BroadGroup, predicts that the "substantial growth" seen could lead to the Indian data centre market being $1.5 billion (£765 million) by 2010.
Although some challenges are to be overcome, including land space, infrastructure and power, demand on both a local and international level are sure to keep the market expanding, the report foresees.
Frank Booty, editor of Data Centre News, commented: "India has the opportunity to become a global hub.
He went on: "India's language capabilities, skill levels, culture and governance are suited to the country becoming a global hub. It also has a resilient economy driving domestic demand for services."
In compiling the report, the researchers looked at the profiles of 34 "major players" in the Indian market.
