.info websites pose greatest 'hack' risk | | 2008/09/16 | | Websites with a .info top level domain name (TDL) are the most likely to have been hacked, according to new research.
Data from the performance management firm Akamai found that website hacks continued to threaten firms during the second quarter of this year.
This will further underline the case for website and web page monitoring services.
Sites ending in .hk and .cn remain the most likely country-based domains to be threatened with a hack or distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.
Meanwhile, website monitoring research has found a Facebook application that could expose businesses to DDoS threats.
According to researchers from the Institute of the Computer Foundation for Research and Technology, the Photo of the Day application can expose computer users that choose to download the software to malware.
The computer terminal is then used as a botnet, which in turn exposes the machine to other hacks.
Researchers conclude that there is a significant risk posed by applications such as the Photo of the Day tool that require users to download software onto their machines.
