Internet top information provider for teens

2008/05/06

The internet is now the main place for young people to access information, reports research firm Synovate.

After surveying 960 Australians aged between eight and 24, Synovate discovered around half pinpointed the internet as their main source of information.

Equally, 58 per cent stated a belief that the internet was the optimum place to access prime material on a range of subjects.

The survey found that the most popular internet activity was using search engines, closely followed by online networking websites.

Brent Stewart, Synovate chief executive, told the Adelaide Advertiser that more young people are turning to the internet instead of newspapers to access information.

"Ninety-eight per cent of Aussie youth are connected to the internet and they are hungry for knowledge."

"The internet is the fastest way to get it," he added.

It was also discovered that the internet had overtaken mobile phones as the thing that young people could not live without.
