Black Friday falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving in the US and is known as the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season.
As many people have the day off the number of shoppers and online shoppers increases.
Visitors to the department store's site were greeted with a message telling them work was underway to get the site back up and to check back shortly.
Julie Gardner, chief marketing officer of Kohl's, said that its site traffic was "significantly higher" compared with last year's Black Friday, explaining why it was unavailable for intervals throughout the day.
As websites experience increased traffic on busy shopping days such as Black Friday, website monitoring services are of increasing importance to ensure customers can purchase items without problems. |
