LSE still unclear on system outage | | 2008/09/16 | | The London Stock Exchange (LSE) remains unclear about what exactly caused the outage that shut the system down for seven hours on Monday.
LSE representatives said that a number of different software incidents happened at the same time, although the problem is not said to be connected to the installation of an upgrade to TradeElect, a new platform that facilitates high-speed trading activities.
The LSE acquired Italian stock market Borsa Italiana earlier this year and is in the process of integration, but although some suspicion has fallen this way, representatives again deny a connection.
Other possibilities are that problems were experienced with TradElect's messaging function during an upgrade, or that the private Estranex network, linking the exchange to clients, was the source of a software fault.
However, the messaging function routinely upgrades without problems, while Cisco Sona, a company with an expansive presence in the LSE, has not been providing comment.
