Making sites disability-friendly pays, says web design firm

2008/05/27

Making websites easily accessible for those consumers with a disability can be a good business move, according to one web design firm.

The director of accessibility at UK-based Fortune Cookie, Julie Howell, believes that by making their addresses simple to navigate for those with disabilities, businesses can bring in more customers.

She said: "There is a strong business case for designing websites that disabled people can use."

Adding: "It not only allows access to a far greater audience but also, something that was borne out of the research is that websites that are accessible, people who don't have disabilities perform far better on them."

Financial services provider Legal & General are reported to have seen a 300 per cent increase in the take up of one product after implementing guidelines making their website more accessible to disabled customers.
