Microsoft gives Live Search cashback | | 2008/05/23 | | Microsoft has upped the ante in its battle with rival search engines Yahoo and Google, by rewarding users who choose the portal.
Consumers who purchase products through Microsoft's Live Search portal will be eligible for an amount of cash back on some items.
However, some experts are sceptical as to how many users the new marketing campaign will bring in.
Internet analyst Alex Burmaster of Nielsen Online commented: "Persuading people to change search engines isn't easy, since people tend to stick with the one they're most comfortable with."
Google is thought to be under added pressure following the move, which follows Yahoo's unveiling of the SearchMonkey tool last month.
However, all indications show that Google is still the world's most popular search engine. According to figures from Comscore, the website was used 58.4 per cent of the time by surfers in December 2007.
