Nearly all students and graduates have Facebook profiles, survey reveals | | 2010/01/08 | | Almost all students or graduates have a Facebook profile, as the popularity of social networking sites continues to increase.
A survey from graduate recruitment site Milkround.com revealed that 98 per cent of students and graduates had a profile with the company when asked which site they use for their social networking.
It also discovered that 45 per cent of those surveyed have a MySpace account, 38 per cent have a Twitter account and 25 per cent have an account with Bebo.
Socialising was found to be the most popular use of such sites. However, 18 per cent claimed to use their profiles for both job hunting and socialising with friends. Three per cent even have separate accounts; one for communicating with friends and one for looking for jobs.
Milkround.com spokesperson Mike Barnard said job seekers are becoming aware of the fact that they cannot be active on Facebook and still hope recruiters will not search for them.
"With 86 per cent using the privacy settings to hide elements of their profile, they are ensuring any potential embarrassing or job-threatening social networking is safely hidden from view," he added.
This week CNET reported about Facebook fixing a bug that appeared in its software that crashed some iPhone applications. With the popularity of the social networking site growing and people using it for multiple reasons, it is important for any problems to be detected and fixed. Website monitoring services help in this way by visiting pages at intervals to check for any issues. |
