Networks face new IP risk | | 2008/08/22 | | UK website monitoring has thrown into doubt the security of internet protocol (IP), according to a new report.
An investigation by the Centre for Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI) reveals that many IP's overlook the security implications of their techniques.
The report noted: "In many cases vendors have implemented quick 'fixes' to protocol flaws without a careful analysis of their effectiveness and their impact on interoperability.
"As a result, any system built in the future according to the official TCP/IP specifications might reincarnate security flaws that have already hit our communication systems in the past."
This further underlines the importance of web site monitoring to ensure that breaches are not occurring in places that are assumed to be secure, reports vnunet.
The TCP/IP system was originally conceived in 1983 and is widely accepted as creating the conditions for the development of today's modern internet.
