Online marketing rescues hurricane-hit business | | 2008/05/09 | | A successful online marketing campaign backed by some of the web's biggest players has helped a small US business which was wrecked by Hurricane Katrina get back on track.
The Silk Road Collection antique store in New Orleans was one of many outlets caught up in the natural disaster of 2005, but a little helping hand from Google, Yahoo and an online marketing firm has enabled the business to grow again out of nothing, reports USA Today
While Yahoo provided free online small business services to get the project off the ground and an e-commerce firm designed a website, Google chipped in with free online software to analyse internet traffic - alternatively the firm could have opted use website availability monitoring services.
The impact has been striking - Silk Road's total sales in 2007 were $201,000 (£100,000) -which represents a 23 per cent increase from the previous year.
This year's figures look equally promising, with online and foreign sales playing a big part in the business' success.
All main avenues of internet advertising in the UK saw an increase in spend during 2007, according to the Internet Advertising Bureau.
Paid search marketing saw one of the biggest increases, with £1.6 billion being spent in 2007 compared with 2006. |
