Outage hits Google App Engine | | 2008/06/20 | | Attention was drawn to the disadvantages of cloud-computing services when Google's App Engine suffered an outage this week.
After a significant number of users were unable to access the service, Google said in explanation: "This outage was the result of a bug in our data store servers and was triggered by a particular class of queries.
"We have isolated the bug and we're currently working on a fix. Going forward, we're also working to further isolate queries so that in the future a bug like this won't affect the stability of the system as a whole."
Amazon are another company to offer cloud-computing services, which many firms remain sceptical of due to their perceived unreliability.
The App Engine service is available to applications using enough CPU power for five million page views a month at no cost.
