Powertel failure hits Australia | | 2009/06/18 | | Powertel's voice and data services blacked out across parts of New South Wales and Queensland today, according to reports.
In news that may be of interested to those researching the benefits of website monitoring services, the network failure occurred at about 14:30 local time, Computerworld reports.
A Powertel technical support officer told the news provider the problem could have been caused in part by "faults with the spanning tree protocol and Ethernet switches", but the exact root of the outage is not known.
Service has reportedly now been restored "intermittently" for some customers.
The latest outage comes just 24 hours after a black-out affected services to Telstra Bigpond customers in the region.
During this outage, Hostworks systems engineer Alastair Watts told Computerworld: "It looks like the DSLAM infrastructure is up and is affecting cable and other services. It appears to be due to core routing problems."
