Rackspace suffers more downtime | | 2009/07/09 | | Data storage and managed hosting firm Rackspace has fallen victim to an electrical problem which caused the companies data centre in Dallas, Fort Worth, to experience an extended period of downtime.
The company lost power to a large portion of its facility earlier this week.
It is the second time this month that a fault has caused the company's systems to fail, affecting thousands of Racspace's customers.
The failure was caused by a faulty bus duct. When the company tried to transfer its systems to a secondary power source as a result of the failure, many of its computers went down.
Companies lost less than an hour's worth of service from Rackspace.
Commenting on the incident, vice-president of marketing and product development Klee Kleber said: "Typically for the customers five minutes and 20 minutes end up pretty similar because in both cases they have to reboot."
"Some have to boot up in a staged sequence. We treat them all the same: all hands on deck," he added.
Meanwhile, website monitoring services are vital, according to Egnyte, as even an hour of downtime can be damaging for businesses. |
