Research highlights Windows Vista security threat | | 2008/05/12 | | New research has highlighted the multiple security threats facing many users of Microsoft's Windows Vista.
A study conducted by PC Tools found that despite the Vista being thought of as the least vulnerable Microsoft operating system, there were an estimated 639 threats per 1,000 machines running the software.
The figures represented an improvement on Windows XP, which registered 1,021 threats per 1,000 machines.
In an attempt to explain the data, PC Tools chief executive Simon Clausen told IT News: "Macs and Vista have similar security prompts that pop up when you install software.
"I think after a while, Vista users just get tired and become blasé about their security, and either ignore the prompts or turn them off- people dont want to have to be a security guard for their PC."
Meanwhile, Microsoft is to issue patches tomorrow (Tuesday, May 13th) for vulnerabilities found in versions of Microsoft Office, Windows and OneCare.
