Round-up of tech trends of 2009 highlights Facebook and Twitter | | 2009/12/30 | |
Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter were highlighted as two trends in technology from 2009.
Ireland's IT news wire ENN's round-up of the year picked out Mark Zuckerberg's site Facebook reaching the 300 million registered users mark earlier this year, as significant. This year it was also discovered that the fastest growing age group on the site was people in their 30s.
"Faced with its rival's record user numbers, MySpace finally gave up trying to compete, in spite of its own not-insignificant 130 million or so users," the news wire said.
Twitter, which allows users to create 140-character status updates, featured in the round-up of top tech trends of the year too. The micro-blogging service "came into its own this year, worming its way into the cultural consciousness".
Although it was not mentioned in ENN's summary of the year, another recent report pointed out that the number of visitors to online news sites in India has increased and their popularity is continuing to rapidly grow.
According to data published in a report from marketing research company ComScore, online news sites in India reached a record 15.8 million visitors aged 15 or older in October, up 37 per cent from the previous year.
With the traffic received by sites such as Facebook, Twitter and news sites being found to increase rapidly, it is even more important to make sure that those visiting do not experience any downtime or they may not remain loyal to a particular site. One way to ensure that any issues on a site are picked up is to put website monitoring services in place. |
