Sarah Palin's account hacked | | 2008/09/18 | |
US vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has had her email account hacked, highlighting the importance of security website monitoring services.
A group gained illegal access to Ms Palin's private Yahoo! email account and were thought to have taken details from the internet giant's password recovery system.
The group then passed screen shots of the Alaska governor's account to Wikileaks, which then made the details publicly available on the internet.
However only a small amount of personal information actually made its way into the public eye, with only two emails eventually published.
According to the Register, the account may have been accessed because somebody guessed the password after the vice presidential candidate's private email address was made "very public" recently.
FBI spokesperson, Brian Hale, said: "The FBI is aware of the alleged hacking incident involving Alaska governor Sarah Palin and is coordinating with the United States Secret Service on the matter."
