Seattle data centre fire causes worldwide outage | | 2009/07/07 | | A fire in a major Seattle data hosting centre has caused internet facilities around the globe to suffer news which may be of interest to those considering using website monitoring services.
It also caused an outage at a local television and radio station.
The Fisher Plaza facility in Seattle is home to multiple data centres and is a major provider of co-location services.
A spokesperson for the facility said the outage was a result of "a major issue".
In a Facebook post, the Bejeweled Blitz Team, which runs the Fisher Plaza facility, said: "For those that aren't aware, there was a fire at our Seattle server hosting facility early Friday morning. Many large websites and businesses were affected by the ensuing outage."
"We appreciate your patience and understanding as we recover from this event," the group added.
According to recent research by Egnyte, even an hour-long internet outage can have an adverse impact on small businesses, while one in five firms said an hour of downtime would have a severe affect. |
