Symantec prioritises hosting requirements | | 2008/08/28 | | A chief scientist at internet security firm Symantec has recently compiled a list of priorities that businesses should discuss when shopping around for a reliable website hosting company.
In the light of increased cyber-crime and heightened vigilance following the publication of details of the DNS hole, security issues are now matching uptime and reliability as key elements.
High-profile cyber crimes have recently been filling the news due to their volume and increased sophistication.
Speaking about choosing a hosting company for business websites, Guy Bunker from Symantec said: "While availability and uptime are key, security is no longer a secondary issue."
Among the subjects that ought to be brought up by company bosses are data encryption along with server and back up security.
Mr Bunker went on: "The other thing that is now important is to ask what their data protection policy is.
"If it is a shopping site, then it will contain sensitive customer details which need to be protected at all times." |
