TechCrunch experiences another hacker attack | | 2010/01/28 | | Technology website TechCrunch has been victim of a second hacker attack less than 24 hours after it first experienced problems.
On the first occasion the site was replace with a message that redirected users to a site containing links to adult material and after the second hack the site displayed an offensive message attacking Michael Arrington, the site's founder.
Although it is not confirmed exactly how the hackers gained access to the site, TechCrunch has revealed that the first and second attack was likely to be a result of a security loophole, although the motives behind the hacking is still unknown.
Before the site went back online for the second time visitors were met with a "We'll be back shortly" message instead of the initial messages that appeared in the place of the site's usual content.
The incident comes following hacks that have originated out of China, in which Gmail accounts of human rights activists in the country and elsewhere in the world were targeted.
To make sure that any changes in a site are picked up when a hack takes place, website monitoring services are used as they regularly check on the appearance of a website's pages. |
