TechCrunch site brought down for four hours by hacker attack | | 2010/01/26 | | Technology blog TechCrunch is back online after experiencing downtime of nearly four hours as a result of being hacked.
When the site was brought down the following message was displayed to visitors: "Earlier tonight techcrunch.com was compromised by a security exploit. We're working to identify the exploit and will bring the site back online shortly."
During the downtime various other messages also replaced the normal site contents, along with a link to a site directing people towards adult material.
Despite the hacking of TechCrunch, its sister site CrunchGear carried on running smoothly, implying it was a specific attack rather than one targeting its entire network.
At this point the site is still gathering information on how the site was compromised by the security exploit, after which the information will be posted on the TechCrunch blog.
Earlier this month Chinese search engine Baidu filed a lawsuit in a US court against Register.com, claiming that a hacker attack on the site was a result of negligence by the domain-name provider. |
