The secret to disaster recovery | | 2009/08/05 | | Creating an effective disaster recovery plan which may involve implementing website monitoring services is vitally important, it has been claimed. According to Roland Etcheverrty, vice-president and chief information officer at Champion Technologies, preparation is the key to having a business continuity plan that works when companies need it to. Writing for IT World, Mr Etcheverrty said: "Practice really does make perfect. Champion's disaster recovery plan is choreographed and scripted every step of the way. Every person has a specific task with a checklist." He said that the company's previous backup process took 14 hours, during which many of its services had to be offline a costly and vulnerable situation. Mr Etcheverrty added that businesses should also be willing to let their disaster recovery plans evolve to ensure they are ready for new threats. According to principal technical architect at Kroll Factual Data, virtualisation is another way of improving a firm's disaster recovery plan. |
