Three months in jail for UN email hacker

2008/09/02

A court case lasting almost a year has recently come to a close with the conviction of an Egyptian computer hacker for attempted blackmail.

The 24-year-old man will spend three months in an Abu Dhabi prison after being found guilty of hacking into the private email account of a United Nations worker based in the country, and then threatening to reveal some of her private details.

The man - known only as MN - was employed as a secretary to his victim, who is from the Unite Arab Emirates, and will be deported after his release from jail, ITP reports.

MN began his campaign by sending an email to his victim which read: "I took your mail, saved your picture and other files following your permission."

He then signed off with an ultimatum allowing two days for his victim to respond but he was tracked down using the Internet Protocol address.

The victim was informed that a large quantity of her private files and documents had been under scrutiny by others when she arranged for her password to be changed upon the realisation that her email account had been hacked into.ADNFCR-1362-ID-18759317-ADNFCR
