Tiscali 'could use website performance monitoring' | | 2008/08/14 | | Internet Service Provider Tiscali could benefit from website performance monitoring after it was recently accused by its customers of selectively narrowing its bandwidth which led to the hugely popular video sharing website YouTube being rendered virtually unusable.
Tiscali users began to notice a severe slowing down in streaming speed around a fortnight ago and, in some cases, found it difficult to even access the site during peak times.
According to ISPreview, many who subscribe to Tiscali's other brands such as Pipex and Nildram have also experienced similar problems and are suspicious that the providers may be trying to cut its own broadband costs.
Tiscali support initially denied there was a problem but has now admitted that a difficulty exists in a statement to ISPreview which read: "We do currently have a problem in routing traffic through one of our international peering partners.
"We are working to restore this and looking to re-route this traffic in the short term."
No timetable for fixing the problem was offered but other sources have suggested that other ISPs may also have been affected. |
