Unemployment benefit website crashes in Arizona | | 2009/06/02 | | Queues of people started building up in many of the Arizona Department of Economic Security offices early on Monday after the organisation's website went down.
The outage had a major impact on the department's services, which were affected for most of the day.
Jim Whitesell, who was leaving one of the unemployment offices, told the Southeast Valley News: "Everybody's busy, nobody wants to help you."
According to the paper, the system failure meant many had to claim their benefits over the phone, but some who did not have a phone-claims password were locked out of the system for 24 hours, leaving them unable to file their claim.
Thaylia Kewanwytewa told the paper: "If you've never entered a password before, what password do you use."
"There were at least three dozen people in line with the same problem."
According to IT expert Rob Pegoraro, a web-based service outage can be the most "maddening" form of computer malfunction. |
