University offers 'ethical' hacking course | | 2008/08/26 | | A Scottish university is offering postgraduate courses in ethical computer hacking and it is hoped that graduates will not employ their skills on the dark side of the internet.
Dundee-based Abertay University will run the MSc Ethical Hacking and Computer Security course to study the methods used by cyber criminals to attack systems and networks in order to construct methods of combating increasingly sophisticated practices.
The course is to run alongside the existing undergraduate course in Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures.
The institution's head of computing Lachlan MacKinnon told the Telegraph: "We have a strong vetting procedure - in the UK we use things like Disclosure Scotland to ensure that people that we're taking on aren't coming from a criminal background."
"We're very careful to make sure that the people who are coming through are doing it for the right reasons," he added.
It is estimated that students completing the course will be earning around £55,000 per year shortly after graduation. |
